Even after the diagnosis, you will be able to make decisions about your medical condition or other issues, manage your financial affairs and continue with normal day-to-day activities (even continuing to drive). However, it is advisable to prepare in advance for a decline in future functioning, for example by appointing a power of attorney for medical care and managing financial matters.

Most often the decline in function will be gradual, and there may also be fluctuations (improvement and regression) in the level of ability to function. It is advisable to consult with the attending physician about the level of fitness and your ability to make decisions in different areas of life. The physician will assess the level of fitness according to a professional examination of the areas of functioning
